Moving forward during times of disruptions

Life is a journey and disruptions are part of life.

How do we move forward when disruptions invade our lives? Are you worried about the future? Do you feel stuck, discouraged or powerless to cope?

We often view disruptions that come into our daily lives as intrusions. We see intrusions as enemies that come to hinder our progress. For example, sickness that develop to prolonged health issues impacting on our overall sense of security and wellbeing. Each day can be an uphill battle. These are times when normal life appears to have stood still and we're in a constant state of worry if we are going to make it. We struggle to pray, to read the Word and we isolate ourselves because we do not want anyone to know where we are at. But God knows! We need true faith in God to go through these difficult times of life.

Suffering will happen to all of us and I was reminded of what Jesus told his disciples at a crucial time of their faith. In John 16, Jesus was preparing the minds of his disciples of future troubles they will face when he is no longer with him.

Jesus said, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)

The same peace Jesus promised to his disciples is also available to us.

Our relationship with Christ is an amazing gift we have as Christians. Through Christ, we have access to all of God's blessings and promises in His Word.

Prayer - The apostle Paul encourages us in the following scriptures not to worry, but pray.

Prayer is the way we cast our burdens on the Lord.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

Praying with a grateful heart helps to put us in a better frame of mind. Remembering to thank God for the times he answered our prayers when we were desperate and lacked hope.

From personal experiences, those were precious moments when we experienced a real closeness to God.

He says, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." (2 Corinthians 12:9).

God's word is filled with hope - God always waits for us to come back to Him. He promises that,

"I will never leave you nor forsake you." (Deuteronomy 31:8). We remember Jesus' words when he said, "The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy; My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life." (John 10:10 NKJV).

True friendship - is one of the most beautiful things in life. We all need encouragement from friends and especially mature Christian friends who can speak into our lives to inspire and motivate us.

I love this scripture, "Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of a friend springs from their heartfelt advice." (Proverbs 27:9).

Confiding in friends we trust helps us to face our realities.

Finding our community - Only God alone can meet all of our individual needs! And, while we live in this broken world, we cannot expect one person to fill all of our emotional and psychological needs. We need to find communities that share the same values and beliefs as we do. Communities are made up of lots of people with varying opinions and life experiences, and being an active member means regularly interacting with others in the group. I've experienced for myself the energy one can get from others while participating in exercises modified to suit senior citizens' wellbeing needs. We regularly meet for coffee on a weekly basis after our exercise class. We give and receive energy from one another - and it's a wonderful thing.

Closing thoughts:

- Maintain regular times with God in prayer, learning to be still, meditating on the Word.

- Keep up church attendances and turn up to church activities to fellowship, encourage others by your being there and also be encouraged by other Christians.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we thank you for your constant love and for your promise that You will never leave or forsake us. Help us to seek You faithfully and entrust our lives into your capable hands.

In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

Thank you for visiting.

God bless!
