SECOND WIND

"But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint" Isaiah 40:31.

Recently during our church's prayer-walking outreach in the community, I got a revelation on "second wind". We had been walking and praying for an hour, and I was feeling breathless. My prayer partner slowed right down to check and to pray for me. She heard me pray to God for 'second wind' and she asked if there was a scripture of about second wind in the Bible. I was immediately reminded of Isaiah 40:31, "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint" Isaiah 40:31.

God's Word is powerful! As we continued to speak the above scripture, the pain was gone, and I recovered my breath. At that moment, I felt I had gotten my second wind. We went on to complete a distance of 7.8 kilometers. It was the longest distance I'd prayer-walked. What a breakthrough it was! And I thank God for the spiritual insight into prayer.

As the year draws to an end, some of us maybe experiencing weariness and fatigue. Working full-time jobs and serving in ministry and community roles have stretched us. All year round, we've been faithful in turning up to everything; Sunday church, prayer meetings, prayer-walks... Yet, spiritually, we've become breathless and in need of a second wind to continue the journey. Just as an athlete needs the proper training and discipline to keep fit for the race, we, as Christians also need to keep in spiritual shape in order to run the race God has set before us (Hebrews 12).

"Prayer is what moves God" (quote -Rex Johnson). God's heart must grieve at our prayerlessness state and the lack of intimacy with Him. Prayer, our most potent spiritual warfare tool can get rusty and in very bad shape. And we become powerless and ineffective in warfare! This is when we need others in the Body of Christ to pray for us and encourage us along. Hold on to those praying friends that you have. They are gold! Let them know when you or someone else is in need of prayer. Together you can call on God for yourself and for others. In Matthew 18:29-20, Jesus said, Again, "if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them."

Yes, I believe we all need the second wind of God's Holy Spirit to spur along!

A Word Of Prayer:

Father, you are our Rock and our Strength in the weary land. We ask you to breathe a second wind upon us, to revive us so we can complete the race you have set before us.
