Hope

We reside in a world that has seen its share of hardships, a world where lives are often fractured. Hope is a necessity for us, every day.

In this post, I wish to ponder the idea that "we all face challenges at times." Discouragement may find its way into our lives through various avenues, yet we are never truly isolated, for we have not been forsaken by God and are ever accompanied by hope.

In Romans 15:4, the apostle Paul says,

"For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.”

Reading the Scriptures brings us into contact with God's love and power in human lives. The Old Testament recounts tales of David the king, described as 'a man after God's own heart,' Ruth the Moabite who left her country to accompany her mother-in-law Naomi, Rahab, a prostitute who protected her family during the fall of Jericho to Joshua and the Israelites, and Esther, who prevented the annihilation of her people by the evil Haman. The Bible is filled with numerous accounts of individuals who, despite great adversity, emerged triumphant through divine intervention.

Hope is often likened to a candle in the darkness.

Many individuals, both within and outside the church, have endured suffering and bear witness to God's kindness and compassion in their lives. Take, for instance, a woman who escaped a violent relationship with the aid of counseling and friends' support. Or consider a young man, born to incarcerated parents, who turned away from a life of crime thanks to the support he received, finding himself in a much better situation. There's also the story of a young woman, once estranged from her family and struggling financially, who, with support, managed to reconcile with her loved ones.

There are countless other tales of people who, in their darkest times, discovered hope through the support of others—be it social services, the church, or their local community. These narratives of hope can be shared with others in need, to inspire and instil hope within them.

Encouragement

The Bible instructs, "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you" (Ephesians 4:32, NIV).

It encourages active involvement in aiding those facing hardships. This can be viewed as God's method of shaping us, offering chances to demonstrate empathy and compassion. We should not judge but rather seek forgiveness for others, just as Lord Jesus Christ forgave us and sacrificed Himself on the Cross for our sins. Participating in these moments of assistance is a true honour.

God is our beacon of hope.

In a fractured world, hope is our salvation. God's love extends to all, and He will employ anyone ready to be a conduit of hope to those in pain and in need within our society.

In closing, the apostle Paul offers encouragement from Romans 15:13:

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."

Thus, let us persist in offering encouragement and hope to one another, wherever God may guide us.
