"Remember how far you've come, not how far you have to go.
You are not where you want to be, but neither are you where you used to be."
~Rick Warren
In this post, I will briefly reflect on my journey as a social worker over the last two decades of my life. I recently retired from full time work as a social worker. Most of my working life was spent in a mainstream organization that works to ensure protection, safety and wellbeing of children and their families. Looking back, I am grateful to other colleagues who helped to enrich my journey to be equipped; through coaching, sharing and teaching the appropriate skills and knowledge required to ensure children and their families are supported.
I will dearly miss the team-work and those significant staff -leaders and colleagues who supported my learning during the journey over the years. They were a significant part of my working life because they helped to build courage and confidence in a team capacity during times when the workload demands were high. I hold them in high regard and pray God's blessings on them and their loved ones.
I retire from full time employment with a grateful heart. I take with me the valuable learnings over the years of work and I can share it to help others - especially to our vulnerable families who may need support in our communities.
And now, it's time to discover what retirement life is about!
Today is the first day of September, 2023. I join the thousands of people in New Zealand who are celebrating the arrival of a new season! Praise the Lord we have endured through months of extreme, devastating weather conditions that caused the loss of many lives and properties! And the new season of 'spring' is here! "Spring" symbolizes a time of renewal and new beginnings.
I love reading the book of Philippians because it is full of joy and, "the joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10)
Philippians 1:6, "Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ."
As I continue to look into God's Word, it brings fresh hope and direction.
Isaiah 43:18-19 says, "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland."
God's plans for our lives are never over until He says it is. As Christians we have a crucial role to play in society especially at these chaotic times we live in. The scripture above indicates that God is opening doors of opportunities for us to take the message of the gospel to those who are hurting and experiencing difficulties. My prayer is to find God's perfect plan for my life and serve Him with a sincere heart.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for a new season of life. Help me to manage time well and to stay close to you in prayer and reading your Word and to heed your leading. In Jesus Name, Amen.
